Man oh man. School is back in session, and this semester I'm actually taking classes where I need to show up.
My writing teacher is pretty much the embodiment of everything that I find abhorrent in academia.

She's a) a woman b) gay c) indan d) mexican. How do I know this, you ask? She told the class.
Within the first 10 minutes of the first session.
And then she starts nattering on about how we're going to concentrate our learning this semester on underrepresented groups and how and what they bring to the table.
She proceeds to inform us that we a) need to buy a journal for the class and b) that our first assignment is a COLLAGE THAT DESCRIBES OURSELVES. And that we have to make 22 copies out of it so we can hold a round table discussion of everyone's collage. Said discussion will take 3 class sessions, she said. That's 6 hours, give or take.
For the uneducated amongst us, I'll review what, exactly, WRT101 is supposed to cover (quoting from my school's catalouge):

WRT101 Writing I
Principles and practices of writing. Includes writing college-level essays, review of basic writing skills, and written works. Also includes narrative/descriptive, expository, and persuasive writing.

I fail to see where a goddamn collage falls into this.
She also babbled on about how she loves the environment and pretty little animals and all that shit.

I have come to a decision. I am going to make it my goal to torment this woman this semester. But I'm going to do it with A caliber work. I think my opening shot across her retarded bow is going to be my epigraph on my collage.

Something I've always hated is our educational system. Everything is written for stupid people on the lowest level. Grade school Curriculum is developed so everyone can graduate from high school. Now a college education only means you can show up, stay awake, and pass afew tests. What do you get in return? Something that costs more than a new luxury vehicle that you make payments on for longer than it took to get and I can purchase for about $2.50 at the grocery store, called Charmin.
    You say
"She told the class within the first 10 minutes of the first session." "She's a) a woman b) gay c) indan d) mexican."
My first question is who the fuck cares? Unless this is a creative writing class in which case she made it up. Probably not, she is trying to get over by becoming a part of every minority group that exists.
Which brings up the second point, what fucking good is it to you? It obviously helped her get a job. However several years from now when you are wage slaving in order to repay your student loan, which paid her fucking salary, you might even have kept a collage about yourself to help remind you of her.
I hate people who have some need to throw this shit in your face and DEMAND you respect them for their choices. Go to hell, I have my own life and like my blinders. Thank you very much.
If you want any help tormenting the stupid bitch I'd like to help. Just remember when she tells you its a free country and she can say what she wants so you have the same right NOT to listen.

you should give her a copy of the book Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity by Bruce Bagemihl. You can read a fabulous review of it here.

actually, i'd send her a link in an anonymous email, and then staunchly claim that sexuality deviation is strictly an aberration found strictly in humans, if you ever have to write an essay on it.

I am staunchly of the opinion that professors should keep extraneous personal information to themselves, especially in these high volume, mandantory clases. Additionally, I hate people who have to define themselves by certain parameters and center everything they do around said parameters, as well. which probably means that if I was in your position I would have attempted to join another section, especially since it would appear that she is distorting the curriculum to fit her desires.

as far as your plans to torment her, i fully support that as long as it is suitably subversive and subtle enough that she can't take away from your grade. if that does happen, it sounds like a visit to the dean is in order.

nice collage but i have yet to understand wtf this has to do with a nursing degree. see, this is the worst thing about education. they make you sit through bullshit courses to get to the shit you actually care about.

I'm sort of easing her into it.
And, unfortunately, I need to do well in this class, so I couldn't put blatant, non-filtered pornography on the collage, so I went for more of a subtly disturbing effect, what with the whores and the serial killers in clown suits and such.

As far as the bullshit classes go, I totally agree with you. I could understand having to take a technical writing class, but some class taught by some stupid hippy cunt about how to embrace diversity doesn't really have any positive affect on my education, sorry to say.

i found that scraping by on under five dollars an hour after taxes was harrowing and miserable. i'd always have to live with roommates in ghetto houses. i'd never have enough money to be comfortable. i barely had enough money for my bills, let alone enough money to take care of myself. i hated my job, my coworkers, and my home life, and would forever. i'd never be able to do everything i wanted (have enough money to see concerts, buy a computer, have enough money for gas and insurance in a car, etc.) so i worked hard, went to school, and i'm going to go straight through and get a pHd because i experienced "life" and was shown in a variety of ways that it "sucks hairy jock" when you're too poor to cover your own ass.

i'm never going to be rich but i'm making sure that i'm decreasing the amount i have to worry about cashflow. it makes me sick just thinking about money, to this day.

plus, i'm an overachiever. i need this lame crap for some reason.

...a guy I threatened to sue for proffesional libel and sexual discrimination if he didn't give me a passing grade, I am not quite sure how I would have responded to a collage for my first writing assignment.

Let's not forget that half of your class probably doesn't know how to use a verb. My sister ran into that in her intro writing class, a guy who simply didn't have verbs in his writing. Now, I personally can not imagine how that would read:

I to the school. I the gun at the teacher's head. The students everywhere. Blood on ground.

Really. Makes you wonder doesn't it? Someone should write a script that removes verbs from our sentences. Then we can all sit here wondering what the hell someone actually did.

That aside, victimization is an annoying trend in the academic world. I remember my sister and her fiance fussing about the "capitalist machine" as I sat in the back of the nice car neither of them paid for. In fact, it was paid for and provided by my Republican capitalist father. Now, they are married, both with English degrees, living pay check to pay check, while I am living quite nicely with my capitalist tendencies. With a little creativity and a great deal of charm, I combined my writing talents from an Art History degree and my teaching assistance in Ballroom Dance, to become a software trainer and technical writer. Not exciting, put I am paid better then 75% of my liberal arts college friends!

Yeah capitalism! There is a reason minorities aren't respected. . .they whine too much. Everyone needs to stop hugging trees and start typing emails instead of wasting so much paper on damn flyers and collages. :)
